The Path I Chose

And Why I'm Sharing It with You

If my stories have left you wondering whether it’s possible to begin again, I’d like to share the path that helped me begin.

When I lost my job at 60, I found myself facing a very practical question:

What am I going to do now?

I looked for another job.

But looking for work at 60 was different. I couldn’t help wondering, Who’s going to hire a 60-year-old woman?

It wasn’t that I thought I had less to offer.

I knew I had value. I knew I had decades of experience, things I’d learned and something I wanted to share with other women.

But I could also see that my options in the traditional job market were getting smaller.

And I still needed an income.

Retirement wasn’t some far-off idea anymore. It was getting closer, and I knew that if I was going to have the retirement I felt I deserved, I needed to find another source of income that wasn’t a job.

I didn’t want my financial future to depend entirely on whether someone else decided to hire me—or whether the job I found would still be there a few years later.

I needed to take back some control.

The problem was, I had no idea how to do that.

I Started Looking

I had a feeling the answer might be somewhere online.

I didn’t have an online business. I didn’t understand how people actually made money online. And I certainly didn’t know how to take what I knew and turn it into something that could create an income.

But I’ve never really believed that not knowing how to do something means I can’t do it.

If there’s something I need to learn, I believe I can probably learn it.

So I went looking.

The first online business company I found asked me to fill out a form.

Within a minute, my phone rang.

There was too much hype. Too much pushiness. Too many promises I simply didn’t believe.

It felt a little sleazy to me.

That wasn’t what I was looking for.

Later that same day, I found LaunchYou.

And it felt completely different.

What I Found

What appealed to me about LaunchYou wasn’t a promise of easy money.

There wasn’t one.

What I found instead was an approach that seemed to line up with values that mattered to me.

Learn how to do this properly.

Do the work.

Get help from people who know more than you do.

Follow a framework instead of trying to figure everything out from scratch.

And take it step by step.

That I could work with.

I didn’t need someone to convince me I was capable.

I didn’t need someone to tell me I had value.

I knew that.

What I needed was someone to show me what I didn’t know yet.

I needed to learn how to take my experience, my ideas and the things I had to offer and begin turning them into something of my own.

Something that could eventually become another source of income.

What That Made Possible

Around the same time, I knew there was something I wanted to create.

After my sister passed away, there was a kind of connection missing from my life.

I missed having that person I could talk to. Someone I could tell things to. Someone who understood where I was coming from without needing the whole backstory.

I knew I couldn’t be the only woman missing that kind of connection.

That was the beginning of A Few Good Friends.

I didn’t know exactly what it would become.

In some ways, it’s still evolving.

But I knew what I wanted it to be about.

Real stories.

Real conversations.

And a place where women navigating this stage of life could feel:

Seen. Heard. Understood.

LaunchYou didn’t give me the idea for A Few Good Friends. That came from something I was missing in my own life.

What LaunchYou gave me was a way to begin turning that idea into something real.

It gave me tools, training, a framework and people who could walk me through the things I didn’t know how to do yet.

It helped me learn how to build a website, communicate online, reach people and begin building something of my own.

And I’m still learning.

That’s important.

I haven’t reached some magical finish line where I suddenly know everything.

I’m building as I go.

I try things.

Some work. Some don’t.

I ask for help when I need it. I change direction when something isn’t working. And I keep learning.

But I’m doing things today that I couldn’t have done a few years ago.

And I’m working toward something that matters enormously to me:

Creating an income that gives me more control over my own financial future.

Why I’m Telling You This

I’ve shared a lot of my life through A Few Good Friends.

I’ve written about losing my job.

Starting over.

Finding happiness.

Friendship.

Getting older.

And discovering that life can still surprise us, even when it hasn’t turned out quite the way we expected.

So it wouldn’t feel right to leave this part out.

Because building something of my own has become part of my story too.

Not because I think everyone reading this should do what I did.

I don’t.

But maybe you’re reading this because you’re facing a very practical question of your own.

Maybe you don’t have a job.

Maybe the job you have no longer feels as secure as it once did.

Maybe retirement is getting closer and you’re realizing there isn’t going to be quite enough money to live the life you hoped you’d have.

Or maybe you simply don’t want the rest of your financial future to depend entirely on someone else employing you.

There has to be another way. I just don’t know what it is yet.

I understand that.

Maybe You’re Standing Somewhere Similar

You may already know what you’d like to build.

Or you may have absolutely no idea.

You may know there’s something you’d like to share with other people.

Or you may simply know that after decades of working, living, learning, solving problems and figuring things out, there must be something in all of that you could build from.

You don’t need to have the answer before you begin looking.

I didn’t know how to turn what I had into another source of income either.

That was the part I needed to learn.

The question isn’t whether you already have a perfectly formed business idea.

The question may simply be:

Could I use what I already know, what I’ve learned or what I’ve experienced to create another source of income?

That’s a question worth exploring.

What Is LaunchYou?

LaunchYou is the online business education and community I found when I was looking for a way to create another source of income.

It combines training, mentorship, frameworks and a community of people learning how to build businesses of their own.

What attracted me was that I didn’t have to know how to do everything before I began.

There was a structure I could follow, people I could learn from and step-by-step guidance through things I had never done before.

It still takes work.

It takes learning.

It takes patience.

And there are no guarantees about where it will lead.

But I didn’t need a guarantee.

I needed a place to begin.

No.

And I genuinely mean that.

Some women will come to A Few Good Friends because they enjoy the stories.

Some may find something here that makes them feel understood.

Some may join a conversation.

Some may share something of their own.

Some may simply stop by from time to time.

That’s enough.

You don’t need to be interested in building a business to belong here.

But if you’re looking at your financial future and thinking you need another way to earn, this may be worth exploring.

Maybe you already have an idea.

Maybe you know you have something to offer but don’t know how to turn it into an income.

Or maybe you don’t know what you could build yet—you simply know you’d like to find another way to create income that gives you more control over your future.

Not because LaunchYou is the only path.

And not because my path needs to become yours.

I’m sharing it because it’s one of the tools I’m using to take more control over my own financial future.
