About Me
A few years ago, if you had asked me where my life was headed, I would have had an answer.
I was a college instructor, teaching business and hospitality to international students. I loved my work. Before that, I had been a computer programmer analyst, a business owner, a consultant, a wife, and a mother of three amazing children.
Life wasn't always easy, but it made sense.
Then, one quiet afternoon, everything changed.
After months of applying for jobs and hearing nothing but silence, I was sitting in my living room when a thought popped into my head.
"Who's going to hire me at 60?"
I said it out loud.
The moment the words left my mouth, I realized I had been waiting for someone else to decide what came next.
I didn't want to spend the next chapter of my life waiting to be chosen.
I wanted to choose myself.
Around that same time, after losing my sister, another thought appeared just as unexpectedly.
"All I need is a few good friends."
That simple sentence stayed with me.
The older I get, the more I realize that life isn't measured by how busy we are or how successful we appear. It's measured by the conversations we have, the people who truly know us, and the stories that help us make sense of our lives.
That's why I created The Quiet Turn.
This isn't a place where I pretend to have all the answers.
It's a place where I ask questions.
Questions about grief.
About family.
About aging.
About purpose.
About depression.
About courage.
About perspective.
About the quiet moments that change the direction of our lives.
The stories you'll find here are true. Some are joyful. Some are heartbreaking. Most are both.
They aren't written because I think my life is extraordinary.
They're written because I believe our lives have more in common than we sometimes realize.
If one of my stories helps you feel a little less alone, encourages you to see your own life differently, or gives you hope that your best years may still be ahead of you, then sharing them has been worthwhile.
I'm still figuring out this next chapter, just like many of you.
Maybe that's the point.
None of us has to have it all figured out.
